Am I addicted to my vibrator?
I’m a 39 year old woman and I’m worried I’ve become dependent on my vibrator. I’ve been using it to masturbate since I got it as a present last year. Lately, I’ve been trying to masturbate without it but I haven’t been able to reach orgasm like I used to. Could this have to do with my using the vibrator?
It’s possible that you’ve become used to the type of stimulation (intense and constant) that your vibrator produces. It’s as if you’ve gotten used to eating really spicy food and now other food seems bland. It’s also possible that worrying about your situation is distracting you from your usual turn-ons (sensations, fantasies) which would normally allow you to reach orgasm.
Rest assured that this situation is not irreversible. You just need to gradually refamiliarize yourself with softer more subtle sensations while bringing your attention back to the things that usually arouse you and trigger orgasm.
For example, if your vibrator has a variety of speeds, gradually reduce the intensity of the vibration while stimulating yourself. Or, in order to absorb some of the vibration, rub yourself with it through your clothing or wrap it in a towel. You could also stimulate yourself by alternating between the vibrator and your fingers, gradually weaning yourself off of the vibrator. Will a little patience and confidence in your abilities, you should be able to regain your former sensitivity in no time.
