Mylène D'Astous, M.A.
Sex and Relationship Expert
Human sexuality and relationships are complex.
And for more than 30 years now, I’ve been studying the intricacies of sexual development, behavior and relationships. I’ve worked with thousands of people struggling with sex and relationship issues. And after all this time, I still feel passionate and curious about what I do.
What keeps me motivated?
I love seeing clients gain insight into the emotional and behavioral patterns that have been keeping them from having a fulfilling sex life.
I love hearing clients say they now feel relaxed and confident during sex because they’re now able to effectively manage sex-related anxiety.
I love helping couples have fruitful conversations about what they need in order to co-create a fulfilling and meaningful sex life together.
And I love seeing clients stop acting out sexually in ways that are harmful to themselves or their loved ones.
So my mission is to continue to help individuals and couples who are unhappy with their sex lives by providing accurate sex and relationship information, and by promoting self-understanding and positive change.

My professional background
My career in sex therapy began in Montreal. After completing a Bachelor’s in Sexology (1993) and then a Master’s in Clinical Sexology (1997) at Université du Québec à Montréal, I opened my therapy practice specialized in sex and relationship issues. During my years of practice in Montreal, I was a volunteer member of the Human Sexuality Unit of the Montreal General Hospital, I built a counselling program specialized in HIV prevention in collaboration with a gay community organization and the Health Department, I was a regular guest-therapist on a call-in radio show and wrote educational articles for various publications. Then in 2007, I was hired to act as a clinical supervisor for graduate students in the Master’s program in clinical sexology which I did until I left Montreal in 2010. Needing a change, and seeing how limited were the resources in sex therapy in the Atlantic provinces, I decided to come back to my hometown of Moncton and to open shop here.
I am a Certified member of the Canadian Counselling Association as well as a Licensed Counselling Therapist with the College of Counselling Therapy of New Brunwick. In order to continue learning new strategies to address my clients needs and to stay up to date with the latest research, I regularly attend continuing education courses and workshops, and connect with other professionals in my field through group supervisions. While my clinical approach is rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy(CBT) and Systems Theory, I’ve since expanded my practice to include other evidence-based treatments such as Schema Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
